These notes explain the current $399 USD membership hypothesis. They are incomplete draft terms, have not been reviewed by counsel, and cannot be accepted or purchased in this prototype.

This policy describes how Hackhouse actually intends to operate, but it has not been reviewed by a lawyer and should not be relied on as a final legal document. It will be before we take payment or run the first cohort.
Definitions
- Accepted member: an applicant the selection committee has voted in. Acceptance is permanent and independent of payment.
- Paying member: an accepted member who has paid the annual fee. Always a subset of accepted members, never a superset.
- Residency: a time-boxed, sponsor-funded cohort at a named house. Selected in a second pass over accepted members.
Provisional sequence
The working product hypothesis is apply, pay, human review, then activate if approved or refund if declined. This sequence remains subject to legal, payment, and operating review. The prototype neither submits an application nor simulates a charge.
What the fee buys
The proposed membership may include Discord, maintained community discovery, member opportunities, partner perks, and eligibility to apply for future houses. None of those benefits is live or guaranteed in this prototype.
What remains separate
The public directory remains available without membership. Membership does not include a retreat, venue, travel, lodging, meals, equipment, admission, compensation, or a bounty. Every retreat needs separate selection, price, inclusions, cancellation, and refund terms.
Residency is separate
Paying would not reserve, improve, or guarantee a seat in any house. Sponsors would not choose the cohort or receive applications. Participant economics would be stated per signed pilot.
Billing
The proposed fee is $399 USD per year. Before any charge, final terms must state billing date, term start, tax, currency conversion, processing fees, renewal, review SLA, and refund method/timing.
Cancelling and lapsing
Cancellation, withdrawal, renewal, lapsing, and pro-rata treatment are not final. They must be presented before checkout in plain language and reviewed by counsel.
Conduct, access, and removal
A production service needs a code of conduct, appeal path, access-removal rules, safety escalation, and treatment of unused fees. Those terms are not complete here.
Changes
We may update these terms. Anything that would move a free, status-carrying benefit behind the fee will not be done by quiet amendment; we will tell paying members directly and give them a refund option.
